The Shannon County Assessor is the elected official responsible for the assessment of real and personal property. Assessment is the process of placing a value on a property for property taxation. This office also maintains all real property ownership records for Shannon County.

Real Property

The Assessor and their staff must review real properties to assess any new structures, remove value from structures that have been removed from the property or no longer hold value, as well as properly depreciate existing structures. Reassessment occurs every two years in odd-numbered years. The purpose of reassessment is to equalize values among taxpayers and to adjust values to current market conditions. New Construction and additions to existing improvements are added to the assessment every year.

Personal Property

Personal property is assessed every year based on what the taxpayer owns as of January 1st. Personal property includes more than just vehicles; it also includes trailers, campers, boats, motors, ATV or UTV's, livestock, farm machinery, business equipment, manufactured homes, airplanes, and more. It is the taxpayers' responsibility to turn in all items for assessment to the County Assessor by March 1st each year; late penalties are applied per state statute after May 1st. An assessment list is mailed out by January 15th each year to all property owners on our current Personal Property Tax Rolls. Please contact our office if you do not receive an assessment by January 15th.
